Most bulk SMS pricing you see online is A2P pricing: a per-message fee, billed in credits or currency, for traffic that terminates on the carrier through a commercial gateway. Sending from your own SIM changes the economics and the ownership of the channel. Four reasons come up again and again.

Cost per message on a plan you already pay for

When the message rides your own SIM, the marginal cost of each SMS is whatever your mobile operator charges you, not a gateway markup. On many consumer and small-business plans, SMS are bundled into a monthly allowance or cost a small fraction of a currency unit each. If your plan includes, say, unlimited or several thousand texts a month, the messages you send from that allowance cost nothing extra beyond the software. You keep using your existing number

The recipient sees your real phone number as the sender. That is a meaningful difference from a registered alphanumeric sender ID, and it cuts both ways, but for a local or relationship-driven business it is usually an advantage: customers can reply, and their replies land back in the same inbox as your outbound messages. No per-message gateway fees, and no route in the middle

An A2P provider sits between you and the carrier and bills accordingly. With the phone-as-gateway model there is no third party in the delivery path for device-mode sends: the software queues the message, your phone sends it over the mobile network, and the phone reports back whether it went. Regulators reinforce this: under the US Telephone Consumer Protection Act, the FCC treats autodialed marketing texts as requiring prior express consent, and unwanted texts draw complaints that hurt deliverability directly.

The practical takeaways for keeping a SIM-based send healthy are straightforward:

  • Only message people who opted in. Consent is both a legal requirement and the single biggest factor in whether your messages keep landing.
  • Pace the send. Spreading a campaign over a window, or across two phones on two SIMs, keeps delivery smooth and looks less like a burst of spam.

Getting started is deliberately short. You need an Android phone (even an older spare), a SIM with SMS in its plan, and your contact list.

Step 1: pair the phone
